ŻfinMalta is a home for groundbreaking artistic collaborations that centre movement as a transformative force in our world, engaging a breadth of artistic voices from near and far to create visually striking, physically distinctive dance work, that captivates the imagination of audiences nationally and internationally. Embedded within the artistic ecology of the nation, ŻfinMalta strives to highlight Malta as a vibrant cultural centre within the European landscape of artistic practice.
ŻfinMalta’s current repertoire includes works by KOR’SIA, Liliana Barros, Simon Riccardi-Zani and Sita Ostheimer. The company’s next season will include new creations by artists including Paloma Munoz, Matthew William Robinson and Diego Tortelli.
ŻfinMalta forms part of the National Agency for the Performing Arts (NAPA) which provides a joint legal, administrative, and organisational framework for KorMalta, Teatru Malta and ŻfinMalta.
Informed by the artistic direction of Matthew William Robinson, ŻfinMalta is seeking curious, versatile and passionate apprentice dancers, of Maltese residence, to learn from, experience and contribute to the National Dance Company and the varied methodologies of the choreographers we work with.
Candidates should have a thirst for attaining a deeper physical understanding, further developing their technical practice and expanding their individual artistry, under the National Dance Company’s mentorship.
The apprenticeship is being offered on a full-time, contract for service basis, from September 2025 – July 2026 for a maximum of 47 paid weeks.
The chosen candidates will be working with the company from Monday to Saturday from 10.00am until 6.00pm. These times may shift during production weeks, with company class beginning each day.
Apprentices will have the opportunity to work with local and international choreographers and may have the chance to perform alongside ŻfinMalta’s dancers in the company’s productions and performances. Apprentice dancers will be offered guidance by the Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director and company dancers, who will be instrumental in their formation into professional dancers.
During their time with ŻfinMalta, apprentices will receive training of the highest international standard, working within the context of a professional, repertory dance company. They will also develop essential workplace skills as professional artists, and receive support in developing their professional portfolios and audition practice.
Apprentices will be expected to maximise this opportunity to work alongside the highly-skilled local and international company members. Upon completion of the apprenticeship they may be invited to audition to become a company dancer.
Candidates must be over 18 years of age and must hold a Maltese residence.
Applications should include a CV with headshot, current employment and education, a referee, contact email, and a video link of a maximum two (2) minutes*.
*Only links to Vimeo and YouTube will be accepted.
Application Deadline: Monday 12th May, 2025 at 5 PM CET.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by Monday 19th May 2025 and invited to audition on the afternoon of Friday 6th June 2025, at ŻfinMalta studios in Valletta.
The company does not hold online or private auditions.
