After one week of working in our studios, ŻfinMalta Artist in Residence Eve Cocks, in collaboration with Ed Muscat Azzpardi and Julienne Schemri  will be sharing their research on Saturday 3rd August, ŻfinMalta Studios.

About our Artist in Residence

Eve Cocks is an art historian and an emerging visual-performance artist based in Malta. Her broad areas of specialism are modern and contemporary art. Eve holds a BA in Art History from the University of Malta as well as a Master of Letters in Art, Politics, Transgression and 20th C. Avant-Gardes from the University of Glasgow. She wrote her MLitt. thesis on the post- WWII collages of the British pop-artist Eduardo Paolozzi under the tutorship of acknowledged Dada expert, Professor David Hopkins, and conducted her thesis research in some of Scotland’s major art institutions including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Hunterian Art Gallery.

 

Over the years, Eve has tought art history and worked in museums and galleries including Koppe Astner contemporary art gallery, which in 2014 gave her the privilege to participate in a world-renowned biennial festival of contemporary art: Glasgow International.

 

Towards the end of 2017, Eve launched evecocks.com, Malta’s first blog on local contemporary art. Today Eve works for the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS), where she gets to work with world renowned artists and curators like Ugo Rondinone, Pierre Huyghe, Cristina Iglesias, Michele Oka Doner, Conrad Shawcross, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Edith Devaney. Since 2022, Eve has also been developing her practice as a performance artist, participating in group exhibitions, community-based projects and workshops related to movement, dance, performance and visual art. In 2023 she took part of Dance Festival Malta and was invited by theatre maker and actor Jacob Piccinino to perform at the Manuel Theatre for a stage play called Sofia as part of Teatru Malta’s Studio Ebejer Project.

 

About ŻfinMalta AiR2024 programme

The National Dance Company’s AiR programme is now in its seventh season. Established in 2018, the programme offers locally based dance makers a space for research and dialogue.  ŻfinMalta welcomes and presents the work of both experienced and emerging artists based in the Maltese Islands, who are currently undertaking choreographic research, to develop and explore their work further in a new context.  The ŻfinMalta programme aims to provide the time and space for focus on the creation and development of movement-based work. Beyond the presentation of our first AiR for 2024, expect presented works and research by our next artist in residence, Abigail Agius. Watch out for the ŻfinMalta AiR2025 call out for proposals, come early 2025!
