IŻFEN ma’ ŻfinMalta – 7-17 years!

In addition to our Monday and Tuesday evening classes, January 2024 brings three new evening classes specially dedicated to children and young people between 7 – 17 years old. Led by ŻfinMalta company dancers Keith Micallef, Amber Van Veen and Pearl Calleja, the classes encourage young participants to channel their energy into dance through creativity and imagination. No previous dance experience is required, and individuals from all backgrounds and all levels of fitness and flexibility are invited to participate. 

Times: 18:30 – 20:00

 

Age: 7 – 17

 

Cost: €12 per session / monthly package for €40 (4 sessions)

ŻfinMalta Izfen ma ŻfinMalta 7 17 Kids

For those with no previous dance experience, this special Iżfen ma’ ŻfinMalta series provides an active introduction to movement, while participants with an established relationship with dance can experience new perspectives and approaches to more complex and abstract ideas. 

 

Experience the transformational power of dance and get moving with ŻfinMalta on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings in January 2024 as part of our 7 – 17 year-old Iżfen ma’ ŻfinMalta Special, led by ŻfinMalta company dancers. These fun and accessible classes address our fundamental human need to move. 

 

Participants attending classes must fill out ŻfinMalta’s participation form in advance of attendance: Only one form needs to be filled out per participant, for the season. Please check out our class policy prior to attending classes and for further details.

Wednesdays

3, 10, 17, 24 January

7-9 year old sessions led by Pearl Calleja

“In these classes we will focus on expressing ourselves creatively and freely through guided movement-based tasks. The session aims at encouraging each participant to discover their individual way of moving, ending the day with a burst of creativity and imagination!” 

 

Pearl Calleja was born in Malta in 2002. She started dance at the age of five and has since trained in classical ballet, contemporary, and Spanish dance and graduated from Seed Dance Studios in 2019. She furthered her studies in contemporary at Dance Arts Faculty in Rome. Pearl was also nominated for the Young Artist of the Year Award in the 2022 edition of Premju għall-Arti. She joined ŻfinMalta as an apprentice in 2020 and as a company dancer in 2021.

Thursdays

4, 11, 18, 25 January

10-13 year old classes led by Amber Van Veen

“Unlock the joy of moving! Discover new ways of moving and find your unique style. Master the art of creating and become the choreographer yourself. Set your imagination free and take it out dancing!” 

 

Amber’s classes allow creativity to take centre stage, and participants learn how to make decisions following their own path on this choreographic journey. 

 

Meet Amber van Veen, a 24-year-old dancer born in Amsterdam. Her dance journey started at the Dutch National Ballet Academy and culminated at Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. After a year of training with Ballet Flanders she found her place in Malta with ŻfinMalta, where she is happily dancing for almost 5 years. In these years she has experienced and learned a lot about choreography and is happy to pass her knowledge to young movers in the Iżfen classes.

Fridays

5, 12, 19, 26 January

14-17 year old classes led by Keith Micallef

Keith will teach a class focusing on developing movement skills and patterns through crossings, floor-based material and standing elements. This will be done through fun and challenging, explosive patterns or strength building exercises. He’s also at least 85% guaranteed to have a cat design on his T shirt for the sessions. Come and join in the fun! 

 

Keith Micallef trained locally, and joined ZfinMalta in 2014, and has worked with international choreographers including Paolo Mangiola, José Agudo, Jacopo Godani, Roy Assaf and Emanuel Gat.
